Legal Requirements

For a marriage to be registered in Sri Lanka certain legal requirements have to be met. The following documents are required:
• Copy of birth certificates of the couple
• Passports
• Full names and addresses of the couple and occupation details
• An affidavit certified and stamped by a Solicitor confirming the marital status of the bride and groom.
• If bride and groom are divorcees, a Decree Absolute annulling the previous marriage is a requirement.
• If both parties are widowed, death certificates of previous spouses is a requirement.
• Any name changes of both parties have toe notified.
